A Quick Guide to Online Local Marketing for Small Businesses

Debbie Kell • December 14, 2021

Here are a few fundamentals when it comes to local search for small businesses.

1. Add a Google Business Listing

Always have a map and a link for directions. Having a map is useful to explain your location in relation to landmarks. If you have a website or blog site, its a great idea to enhance it for locally pertinent terms and colloquialisms.

2. Develop accurate listings

There are a ton of directory site listing websites. If you are listing your service on any number of these directories, it's best practice to be accurate & consistent in your entries. For national listings and review websites, be sure that your service is consistent in searches for the area. Consistency is essential - make sure your address format is identical on all of the sites! It really does make a difference!

3. Stay regional on social

Follow and register for other local pages such as Chambers of Commerce and media outlets.

Search for regional online groups to join as well. Don't be afraid to share posts from fellow services in your community to support them.

4. Bring your online marketing to your company

Internet marketing doesn't stop online. Use signs to drive visitors to your business, to your website, and social networks channels. If possible, drive text-to-join or SMS optin from those that visit your physical location to register for your e-mail and sms lists.
