Introducing CEO, manager, and employee of Ryan’s Recycling Company: 7-year-old Ryan Hickman. Yes, he was only 3 1/2 years old when he found his passion and mission to help the world!
With his dad, he was at the rePlanet recycling center in CA. This got him interested in old cans and bottles.
The next day, at 3 1/2 years old, he saw some more cans on the street in front of his home in San Juan Capistrano and said to his dad, “I’m going to pick up all the can’s and bottles that I see around the neighborhood.” And presto, his new business was launched.
Today, at 7 years old, 50 people call him regularly to pick up cans and bottles and he has collected over 200,000 bottles and cans recorded in his recycling credit.
Neighbors help out by having cans and bottles ready to go when he stops by to their homes. Sometimes they will even drop the bag of “goodies” off as his door. He even helps the janitor at his school separate the trash and has recruited five of his school buddies. So business is growing. No mention if these kids are paid, but I’m sure they’re smart little dudes too.
Dad is encouraging Ryan in this endeavor. When they go to the recycling center he helps Ryan sort the glass, aluminum, and plastic into big piles.
Kudos to Ryan and his dad. When a kid finds a passion, let him pursue it, this too is a gift from God.
